Allison Powell - Hike Your Own Hike, LLC
backpacking women's trips adirondack guided trips

Adirondack Connections is pleased to introduce, Allison Powell. Allison is bringing quite a bit of backpack, camping and leadership experience to the Adirondack Connections team! She will be assisting with our Women's Trips & Events as well as Backpack and Canoe Camping Trips. We will be partnering with her guide service, Hike Your Own Hike, LLC, for backpack and hiking trips in the western part of New York or wherever our joint adventures may take us!

Allison was born in North Dakota and grew up backpacking and camping in Montana's Glacier National Park, South Dakota's Black Hills and Wyoming's Yellowstone National Park. She was a professional equestrian, an Arizona state champion and in 1989 received the Arizona Horse Exhibitors Association's Sportsmanship Award. At the age of thirty, she changed careers and went into law enforcement, graduating from the Phoenix Arizona Police Academy. She was employed by the State of Arizona and specialized in fraud investigations. She received certification as an Arizona Peace Officers Standards and Training Board (AZ POST) General Instructor, an Arizona Supreme Court Licensed Defensive Driving Instructor and completed the Certified Public Manager Program at Arizona State University. She retired in 2014 at the rank of Sergeant.

Allison's resume of backpacking trips incudes, completing the rim-to-rim hike on the North Kaibab/Bright Angel Trail and the Havasupai Trail in Arizona's Grand Canyon. The West Fork Trail in Oak Creek Canyon, AZ; Sabino Canyon outside of Tucson, AZ; and the Sandia Mountain Tramway & La Luz Trails near Albuquerque, NM.

She moved to New York and in 2016 acquired her New York State Guide's License and began her own backpacking service, "Hike Your Own Hike, LLC." She became a member of the New York State Outdoor Guides Association and in March 2017, was elected the association's Director for Region 9. She is an active member of the North Country Trail Association, Alleghany Chapter and assists with trail maintenance. She is also a member of McKean County Search and Rescue and is certified in CPR, Basic First Aid and Wilderness First Aid.

Allison has backpacked over 200 miles of the North Country Trail in New York, Pennsylvania and North Dakota. She's completed the Westside Cusimano Trail, Eastside Cardot Trail and hiked the Chautauqua Gorge, all located in Chautauqua County. And, has hiked or backpacked extensively in Allegany State Park, NY and the Alleghany National Forest, PA.

As a champion female equestrian, law enforcement officer and instructor, Allison has faced her share of challenges. She believes all females have the power within them to accomplish anything they desire, no matter how hard the path may be.

Allison's favorite quote:
"You are as powerful and strong as you allow yourself to be, and the most difficult part of any endeavor is taking the first step, making the first decision." Author: Robyn Davidson "Tracks"
