Testimonials

backpacking canoeing camping hiking adirondack guided trips St. Regis Wilderness Area, Adirondack 46er, ADK High Peaks

Thanks for another great paddling trip! Given how few times I get to do my favorite outdoor activities anymore, I appreciate your leadership and skills and the care you take to find just the right paddling trip for me - whether overnight or day trip. I'm already counting the days until our next trip!

My wife and I have been working on our 46 peaks, starting last summer, and wanted to attempt backpacking so we could slow down and enjoy the peaks. We had no gear and really no understanding of the rules of the Adirondacks related to camping in the High Peaks Wilderness. We fortunately stumbled upon Adirondack Connections on Facebook and could not be happier that we did! Lynn was amazing to work with from the beginning- she communicated with us about gear, food, details of the trip, our apprehensions. Adirondack Connections went above and beyond to make sure that our trip was everything we had hoped for and more. No detail is missed, everything is purposeful from eating dinner in the most amazing places to making sure that we arrived at scenic spots at the appropriate time so that our pictures weren't impacted by the sun being in the "wrong spot." She is a wealth of knowledge and incredibly patient - we must have had 1000 bear questions for her. We left our trip having learned a ton and ready to go shopping for backpacking gear! Most importantly we left feeling like we had made new friends!! Thanks so much!

Our journey started with a desire for me start a tradition that would allow me to build a unique connection with my teen age daughter. I thought what better way to do that then to challenge ourselves with a goal that could take a lifetime to complete - climb the 46 peaks together. She loves hiking, so it seemed like an obvious choice. But we were not experts or even remotely skilled in hiking mountains. I wanted to start the tradition out right while teaching my daughter that women can be strong wilderness people. These thoughts led me to searching for a guide who was already an expert and a woman which eventually led us to Lynn. Before our trip, Lynn was so responsive and interested in making sure that she understood what we were looking for in this experience. She listened and created an itinerary that sounded wonderful. Lynn was very careful to ensure that we were prepared for the our time canoeing and hiking. The day came for our trip and unfortunately, the weather wasn't cooperating. Lynn's flexible spirit kicked in - let's canoe later today and hike tomorrow she declared even though she was only supposed to spend 1 day with us. The first day she took us to a remote pond - really a small, beautiful lake. We were the only three there. The entire time she toured us around the lake, she pointed all the wonders and taught us about respecting and valuing nature. The next day, we hiked Cascade and Porter - our first two high peaks. Six miles and 5 hours, again, with Lynn guiding us, teaching us and sharing with us her love of the Adirondacks. In the end, Lynn gave us an experience that exceeded our expectations. She prepared us to be able to do our next high peaks hike by ourselves, but I think we likely will do it with her. My daughter and I agreed that part of our tradition will include having Lynn take us on a hike each year. What started off as a journey to create a tradition ended with an unforgettable experience. Thanks to you, Lynn, for preparing us for the other 44 and for teaching us so much.

Wish to explore waters surrounded by pristine Adirondacks? Unsure of how to go about this venture? Well, then, visit www.adirondackconnections.com just as I did several years ago. You'll meet Lynn Malerba, who'll be an extraordinary addition to your paddling life! This summer, I completed my second pond-hopping experience with this certified Adirondack Guide. Lynn's knowledge and experience will delight and enrich your day. It was she who directed our eyes to the osprey nest, to the bald eagle perched far above, to the sunning turtle, to the beaver dam under construction, and our ears to the sound of a loon in distress. She is just amazing as she guides us along at such a restful pace. She offers other Adirondack explorations, so be sure to check out her website .... I'm so glad that I did!

Thanks so much for being an excellent guide for my son John and I. I loved how you taught strategies and safety in canoeing and camping so well to a 12 year old with no prior experience and to an old man like me. The choice of canoes was perfect as was the campsite. It was great to see John accept personal responsibility for care of his canoe and his camping gear. On our way home, John announced that he loved the Adirondacks and would like to come back. I'm sure we will soon. Thanks again, Lynn.
